My VW Jetta appears to have a dead battery. Can I have it charged with jumper cables?

I've seen people charge a car by hooking up jumper cables from a car with battery charge to the car with no charge. Is this ok to do with a VW Jetta? I know I am not supposed to use those fast charger to charge. Thanks!|||The jumper cables will get you started, but they aren't for charging the battery. What the other guy said about driving around to charge the battery is what will do it. Also watch for the trouble light on the dash (idiot light), or charge gauge, if your car has one of those. If the light comes on, the battery isn't being charged by the alternator and that's the cause of it dying.

If you want to use a charger on the battery, disconnect its ground (-) first to cut the risk of ruining the alternator. Alternators are very expensive. Batteries are much cheaper.|||You can, but before you try that, make sure its your battery thats bad and not your alternator. Most auto parts stores will charge and test it for you. if you are going to use cables, jumpstart your car and then let YOUR CAR charge your battery, drive somewhere local, it will charge it faster than if you just sit in the parking lot.|||1) Jumpstart the car

2) Leave it running (preferably driving, but at least idling in the driveway) for 45 minutes (watch that gas gauge!)

3) If it dies again after a few days, you'll need to replace the battery.|||You can, but it will only die again. I'd go take the battery to an auto store and have them test it for you to be sure it's salvagable or not.
