I want to buy an old school VW Bug. What can I do to the stock engine to make it go faster?

1967 VW Bug

Specifications:

Engine: 1200cc / 1300cc

Horsepower: 50 hp / 53 hp

Top Speed: 130 km/h (82 mph)

What can I do to make this engine go faster?|||This site www.oldspeed.com is where you can get an idea what your options are, you can build up that motor but parts are getting scarce and expensive.

Your best bet is to go with the 1600cc dual port motor with big bore cylinder kit, upgraded crank and a dual carburetor set up.

The 1600 is a much better engine and parts are much easier and less expensive to get.|||LOL, that thing cannot do 82 MPH, you'll be lucky to get 75.

You can't do much without burning it out, you'll need to get a double port, 1600 if you wanna do much of anything.

But that'll cots you.|||replace it................an uprite porsche engine will bolt right up!|||Port and relive and have your engine blueprinted. You can have this done at any speed shop or a shop which specializes in racing cars. This way you never compromise the engine. Putting a turbo and any engine which is not specifically designed for one will damage the longevity of that engine.|||I'd go with fuel injection, headers, performance muffler, top quality plug wires, Bosch Platinum pugs, good quality ignition system, and upgrade to a 1600- 1800 cc dual port.|||put a better exhaust on it. Make sure the valves and timing are prefect on it. they where very picky on breathing. Better air filter. Better ignition and wires. Done it, been there. don't expect muscle car performance....but the mileage will go up and somewhat better drive ability.|||Go to VWVORTEX.com, there are people there that can help you find anything. They make a turbocharged motor for your car that bolts right in and gives you like 220 HP which is close to tripling your horsepower and it can go up to 130 MPH. My friends dad has on and it is REALLY fast.|||best thing would be turbo. i believe u can get an engine for it which would be even better that pushes over 200hp
