Is a 1998 VW new beetle a good car to buy?

I am looking to buy my first car and my aunt is selling her 1998 VW new beetle to me for $4000. She is getting all the fluids drained and replaced and just had a window fixed. It has 44,000miles on it. Would this be good purchase? I am only looking to spend $4000, so should I stick with this car or find another car??

Thanks!|||buy it , you know the history the mileage is low for the year, and she is taking good care of it, these are the kinds of cars to look for, one where the owner does not just drive the heck out of it and then dump it. I try to talk people out of buying high mileage crap every week. This is the jewel of a car you are looking for that are very difficult to find So grab on to this deal drive it for awhile and then go from that point you can still put 45,000 miles on it, and if you take care of it someone else can use it for a while longer too. Good score enjoy your new to you car.|||Very nice car, historical. it's wearing a 4 cylinder boxer engine(if it's not modified), which makes it reliable and strong. The miles are not much for a car like this. Check it's condition, if you don't know how, ask for a test drive, or ask someone else to check it.

P.S. negotiate the price, 4k is a bit expensive. You should search for other cars, just in case you find something better.|||Why do you refer to 1998 beetle as "new"?

Assuming it only has 44K miles on it and is mechanically sound, it's a bargain! You won't find anything close to this for $4K.
