What can I expect to pay for a paint job for my 69 VW Beetle?

I am restoring a 1969 VW Beetle Convertible and am looking to have it painted. I want the fenders removed and the entire car painted before I add the new top and new interior. Anyone know what I can expect to pay for the paint job alone?|||Since it's a metal car theres probably alot of rust then alot of prep i would say 2-5k for a good job . But if you just want a cheap maaco paint job about $300-800.|||the most expensive and time consuming part of any paint job is the prep work if you do most yourself you will save lots of money but a good quality job done by a professional will still cost around 2 grand if you do most of the prep|||Check out these forums (air-cooled VW sites), they both have paint and body sections where you should be able to find out some more info:

I think the prices above sound about right, it's not going to be cheap if you want it done it right.

Why is the engine light coming on in my 2002 VW Passat?

The check engine light in my VW Passat cam on about 2 months ago in my VW Passat. I've been looking up the possibilities and think it could be the oil sludge issues. Does anyone else have any ideas or how to fix it?|||There's about 500+ different things that can make that light come on.

So far, it seems you've done everything except the one thing it's telling you to do. CHECK THE ENGINE.

It's not hard. Take it in, get the code read.

Don't waste time, looking up what it might be, just find out what it actually is.

Then, you'll have an idea of how to fix it.|||Oil sludge issues? You don't change the oil and filter every 3,000 miles or have the car scanned for codes. Looking up what possibilities? You don't have anything to base a guess on. You need to fix your bad habit of driving the car into the ground. Have a mechanic that knows what they are doing keep your car maintained and running before you end up walking.

A car should be inspected and scanned for codes asap when the light comes on.

By the way, dirty oil is not one of the things that will set ses lights and codes.|||ill give you the list but now you have to pull the codes.

It should be OBD2 and you can take it to a parts store or garage or buy a code reader ($40 or less) that will read codes on all 96 and up cars. If you think it's sludge..you DID change the oil and filter right?|||mostly if the light is flashing there is something major wrong. but if not then it could just be time to change an air filter or as simple as the gas cap not venting right. go to auto zone they can read the code out for free.|||your question is like you having a headache and calling your doctor and ask him why do u have a headache.? nobody is going to know why your check engine light is on unless you take your car a shop and have it looked at

How much do you think it is to replace an engine in newer VW Bug?

i saw a nice 2000 vw bug for only 4grand but it has 215,000 miles on it. How much do you think to replace the engine?|||3 grand|||With that many miles and the fact that they are still asking $4000 for it, my guess is that it is a Turbo Diesel. You are looking are considerably more than for a gas engine.

But I agree with above, Call around and see what it would cost.|||call your nearest AutoZone to price

How much could i sell a 1997 VW Jetta GLS with 130,000 miles on it for, with a bad transmisson.?

I have a 1997 VW jetta GLS with 130,000 miles on it, But the transmission went out on it. So i was wondering how much i should try to sell it for.|||Honestly? $300 maybe $500 in parts. The transmission repair is more expensive than the value of the car. Best case scenario about $1,800.00.|||kbb.com

How do i remove the badge off the stearing wheel of a 66 vw bug?

I am trying to replace the horn ring on my 66 vw bug. the guy replaced the original with an aftermarket one for some reason. And i am now trying to put the original back on.|||it has small metal loops behind it that hold it on. carefully just pry it off from the bottom. its pretty tight but it should pop off

How often to change spark plugs in VW golf 1999 gti?

How often should I change my sparks plugs, I have had my car for 4 yrs and haven't changed them since I have had it, Car is 1999 VW Golf GTI. Have done 50,000 km in the car since I have had it.|||"For that particular vehicle, it's recommended that they be replaced every 60,000 miles (96,560km) with platinum spark plugs or other precious metal like iridium"

I agree with this for the most part every 60,000 Miles is best whether the look good or not. Spark plugs are now expensive and you only need 4. the part i don't agree with is the "platinum spark plugs or other precious metal like iridium". you will get the best performance from a Bosch Copper Plug as VW recommends using Bosch Cooper Plugs as does the Bentley Repair Guide and any good VW dedicated shop|||Most plugs now days are good for 130,000 Km. Most of the time, in a vW the "Check engine" light will come on and give you a code that indicates a misfire.

If it is running OK, and no engine error codes, then keep on riding.|||For that particular vehicle, it's recommended that they be replaced every 60,000 miles (96,560km) with platinum spark plugs or other precious metal like iridium

How much is it to replace my VW passenger window motor?

My passenger New Beetle window does not roll up. It makes a little cracking noise when I press to roll it up, sounds like glass broke. but I'm not sure.

Does anyone know how much the labor might be for a VW (1999) and what most likely happened?|||After market kits are $40-80. I would put labor around $60-100. If it is broken glass because your window dropped, add in the price of a window.

It will run you about $200-$400 dollars at the dealer if you decide to go that way. It is pretty straight forward if you try to tackle it yourself with a few simple tools and some general knowledge. Good weekend project!
