How much does it cost to replace wheel bearings on a VW Golf?

I have a 98 VW Golf GTI VR6 and the FR wheel bearing is going bad. On long sweeping left turns it makes a really low rumbling sound. I called Midas and they said that it would cost about $575 to fix, that seemed over priced so I want to get an idea of how much it should cost.|||Been a while since I worked on a vehicle that small as I work on trucks now but an old rule of thumb. If the bearing is less than 50 dollars it will be real expensive to install (pressed in). If the bearing is over 120 dollars it will probably bolt in easily. Check online at the local auto parts stores for your area and price the bearing first and that will get you pointed in the right direction








They will get you coming or going.|||yes i think it overpriced i cant be sure on what it cost,s i tend to stay away from fast fit joints, best thing phone a motor factors ask the price for a bearing kit. i would allow say in pounds 拢125.00 max labour to replace bearing , some people say that you should replace both sides at the same time|||This is a press in style bearing.





You should have a REAL mechanic work on it, not midas. When midas gets a call to fix a VW, Audi, Mercedes, BMW or any other european vehicle they quote it super high because they don't want to do it.





A real mechanic that works on VW's would probably charge around $300 for the front two.|||I am pretty sure that is a sealed bearing on the VW. If so they are a lot more expensive than the old traditional wheel bearings. They are also pressed into the hub assembly. You may find someplace to do alittle cheaper but if that is for both sides i dont think its that bad a deal.|||well go to a local parts store and find out the price of the parts and then check out labor rates at a mechanic of choice. and add the two and that is what it should cost.
