How hard is it to rewire a classic VW Beetle?

I am new to VW's and just purchased a basket case for my daughter. The car is solid, and runs fairly well. But the electrical is a mess. I have no problem with engine or trans work, but electrical makes me nervous. Anyone know how to rewire these old Bugs? How much should it cost me just to pay someone to do it for me?|||I forget whether it's Haynes or Chilton's, but one of them has a very good schematic of the electrical system. Go to your parts store and have a look. If it's an old Bug (60s, 70s), without all the bells and whistles, the electrical system should be pretty straight-forward and easy to re-wire.

In the town where I live, we have a mechanic whose shop just does VWs, nothing else. I don't know what he'd charge, but I'm thinking pretty reasonable. That's where I would take it without a doubt, if I couldn't fix it myself. Look for someone like that. Many towns have "specialty shops."

Good luck, and kudos for getting your daughter a great little car!|||save your self a great deal fo time and money and my the harness. otherwise you will have so many spools of wire in the garage. they are pretty simple with few circuits but still, have it done once and done right.|||Why bother? It would be cheaper and easier to just get a new harness for it. They're widely available from VW specialists.|||Take it to an auto electric shop
