How can you tell what engine you have in a 1969 VW Bug?

I just bought a 69 VW Bug today, and the guy I bought it from believes it to be a 1600 dual port. Is there a engine code # to look for, or can you tell by just looking at it? Thanks in advance!|||I think '69's came stock with single port heads.

The cars came with no "badges" describing single or dual ports-

For visual clues as to what you have, look at the intake manifold- is it a 3 piece manifold where there are aluminum "end pieces" bolted to each head? THAT'D be a dual port manifold, dual port heads.

Single port manifolds just bolt directly to the head with no additional parts in between.

For more info, check out wikipedia.

Good luck with your new Bug!|||why don't you take a picture and post on vw enthusiast forums and ask people to help you identify it,

try it out vwvortex.com its free|||Is there not any badges or anything on top of the engine ??? Looking on your papers may help aswell???
