What can I expect to pay for a paint job for my 69 VW Beetle?

I am restoring a 1969 VW Beetle Convertible and am looking to have it painted. I want the fenders removed and the entire car painted before I add the new top and new interior. Anyone know what I can expect to pay for the paint job alone?|||Since it's a metal car theres probably alot of rust then alot of prep i would say 2-5k for a good job . But if you just want a cheap maaco paint job about $300-800.|||the most expensive and time consuming part of any paint job is the prep work if you do most yourself you will save lots of money but a good quality job done by a professional will still cost around 2 grand if you do most of the prep|||Check out these forums (air-cooled VW sites), they both have paint and body sections where you should be able to find out some more info:

I think the prices above sound about right, it's not going to be cheap if you want it done it right.

Why is the engine light coming on in my 2002 VW Passat?

The check engine light in my VW Passat cam on about 2 months ago in my VW Passat. I've been looking up the possibilities and think it could be the oil sludge issues. Does anyone else have any ideas or how to fix it?|||There's about 500+ different things that can make that light come on.

So far, it seems you've done everything except the one thing it's telling you to do. CHECK THE ENGINE.

It's not hard. Take it in, get the code read.

Don't waste time, looking up what it might be, just find out what it actually is.

Then, you'll have an idea of how to fix it.|||Oil sludge issues? You don't change the oil and filter every 3,000 miles or have the car scanned for codes. Looking up what possibilities? You don't have anything to base a guess on. You need to fix your bad habit of driving the car into the ground. Have a mechanic that knows what they are doing keep your car maintained and running before you end up walking.

A car should be inspected and scanned for codes asap when the light comes on.

By the way, dirty oil is not one of the things that will set ses lights and codes.|||ill give you the list but now you have to pull the codes.

It should be OBD2 and you can take it to a parts store or garage or buy a code reader ($40 or less) that will read codes on all 96 and up cars. If you think it's sludge..you DID change the oil and filter right?|||mostly if the light is flashing there is something major wrong. but if not then it could just be time to change an air filter or as simple as the gas cap not venting right. go to auto zone they can read the code out for free.|||your question is like you having a headache and calling your doctor and ask him why do u have a headache.? nobody is going to know why your check engine light is on unless you take your car a shop and have it looked at

How much do you think it is to replace an engine in newer VW Bug?

i saw a nice 2000 vw bug for only 4grand but it has 215,000 miles on it. How much do you think to replace the engine?|||3 grand|||With that many miles and the fact that they are still asking $4000 for it, my guess is that it is a Turbo Diesel. You are looking are considerably more than for a gas engine.

But I agree with above, Call around and see what it would cost.|||call your nearest AutoZone to price

I have a 1997 VW jetta GLS with 130,000 miles on it, But the transmission went out on it. So i was wondering how much i should try to sell it for.|||Honestly? $300 maybe $500 in parts. The transmission repair is more expensive than the value of the car. Best case scenario about $1,800.00.|||kbb.com

How often to change spark plugs in VW golf 1999 gti?

How often should I change my sparks plugs, I have had my car for 4 yrs and haven't changed them since I have had it, Car is 1999 VW Golf GTI. I agree with this for the most part every 60,000 Miles is best whether the look good or not. Spark plugs are now expensive and you only need 4. the part i don't agree with is the "platinum spark plugs or other precious metal like iridium". you will get the best performance from a Bosch Copper Plug as VW recommends using Bosch Cooper Plugs as does the Bentley Repair Guide and any good VW dedicated shop|||Most plugs now days are good for 130,000 Km. Most of the time, in a vW the "Check engine" light will come on and give you a code that indicates a misfire.

If it is running OK, and no engine error codes, then keep on riding.|||For that particular vehicle, it's recommended that they be replaced every 60,000 miles (96,560km) with platinum spark plugs or other precious metal like iridium

How much is it to replace my VW passenger window motor?

My passenger New Beetle window does not roll up. It makes a little cracking noise when I press to roll it up, sounds like glass broke. but I'm not sure.

Does anyone know how much the labor might be for a VW (1999) and what most likely happened?|||After market kits are $40-80. I would put labor around $60-100. If it is broken glass because your window dropped, add in the price of a window.

Can i use the vw new beetle repair manual 1998-2000 to fix my 2004 vw beetle?

I'm looking to replace my coolant and spark plugs, and I found the repair manual for 1998-2000 at a discount book store. Could I use it for the 2004 vw beetle? Or is the 2004 model that much different?|||Really if you want my opinion I don't recommend that you try and go by any service manual that are for vehicles 4-6 years older.Plus unless you buy a true factory service manual or manuals for that vehicle you will never get all the info or insight in managing to trouble shoot or repair your vehicle. These manuals can be quite complexed and unless you learn or know how to read them , their much like trying to figure out info via using several sections and different pgs to actually figure out exactly how it functions, part, wiring info or how it even works etc.

Put it this way I'd rather recommend that you use and learn via the original factory repair manuals bec you have direct access to much more detailed info in them then many of the other aftermarket service manuals.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way I saw a few repair manuals for your vehicle on ebay for fair prices. Also there probably are several common parts or circuits that each of the different years use but take it from me when you're trouble shooting certain circuits or problems you want all the info that you can get that the manufacture would offer to you or their dealership service departments. From what sections or parts of your vehicle that you're trying to work on it is possible that not much has changed within those years when it comes down to the basics such as the plugs or it's basic coolant system design etc.I do know that indeed much or some of the manual info is the same for your vehicle from even the 98 models and going up to 2005 and around 2002 some other changes took place.

You might want to try different main reference libraries for access to a more accurate service manual , plus you could read and compare even the older repair book info to your own vehicle.I'd try places like ebay etc bec they have at times a great variety of factory repair manuals or automotive repair manuals. You could pick up a set of factory books via ebay etc just be sure to check the seller book content etc info and to don't be shy to ask sellers detailed questions before you make any bids etc.|||You're quite welcome

What would cause a rattling noise under VW Beetle?

I have a rattling noise underneath my 2001 VW Beetle. Sounds like something loose when I start it and when I drive slowly. What could be causing this and if you had to roughly estimate how much would a repair cost?

-I saw an answer before that said the engine oil pan's metal shield may have come loose or may have broke.|||squidward|||Heat shield in the exhaust area- less than $40 to spot weld it.

Looking for a convertible under or around 10K which VW would you suggest?

Looking to buy a VW convertible (new beetle or cabrio) this summer. It will not be my primary car, just something fun to drive on the weekends. Any current older model VW owners that could give me advice on what year to avoid or which model to look for?|||I own a 92, 93, and 89 Cabriolet.

From what I have seen on the various cabby forums that I visit it's a crap shoot.

If the vehicle was maintained by the previous owners then most are a good buy.

If you are not ready to shell out green, for new to you but never maintained repairs, then any is a good

thing.

I would however stay away from Automatics, as the Cabrio (95-2005) has a weaker than normal tranny, this same automatic would also be in the beetles.

The 80-93 Rabbit Convertible/Cabriolet if maintained would be a good buy, and a fun drive, the 90-93 are more forgiving as far as normal maintenance goes, and the 010 automatic transmission is almost bullet proof and easier to rebuild.

I would look for a car that is maintained well, has the receipts to prove it, and has a current emission inspection/ timing belt replaced, and a new clutch as those are the high item tickets.

If the Top is worn, or in the case of a (electric) top that it hesitates going up or down, is usually indicative of the care that the previous owner shows in general to the car.

Good sites to visit to look at the buyers guide are:

www.vwvortex.com

www.cabby-info.com

I have my 92, and 93 are both automatics, and are daily drivers with 160K, and 140K on the clock.

Getting them to that status takes time, parts and monies. If you can't do your own maintenance, then the "older" one may not be your cup of tea.

What would a Slightly damaged 1999 VW Passat be worth?

I can buy a 1999 VW passat For 1900. It needs a rear bumper cover, trunk lid, RH Tail light and both front park lights. It has 127k miles and most options, alloy wheels, tip-tronic Auto, moonroof, 1.8 turbo. Engine light is on, but car runs fine. Because of damage has salvage title. Any help would be great, i really just dont know if it would be worth putting money into.|||Well i own close to 40 different vw's you could part out the car very easily. each sensor is worth around 300 dollars, the motor and turbo is worth alot.. The car to fix would not be that much. It all depends if you doing it yourself.the hood is worth 266 bucks new in canada..light *** is 250 bucks... bumper cover is 250 bucks..truck lid is 310 bucks.. so it aint that bad.. normely that car sells for around 9000 bucks in premium condition|||Offer them 1500, but 1900 is a good deal. Buy it but try and work them|||This car will be more trouble that it is worth. It will be a money pit.

Avoid this "deal". It's not worth the headache.

Body parts are expensive, the body work alone, unless you have the knowledge and the tools to do it yourself will be several thousand dollars. The engine work could be equally as much. At 127K miles it will probably need a new turbo and timing belt (over $2,000 right there). You'll probably put close to $6000 into this car before you ever get to drive it. ($2k for the car, $2500 for the bodywork and paint job and possibly another $1500 for engine work)

Plus it's 10 years old. If it was only 4 years old, maybe, but an old turbo Passat with high miles isn't an expensive car to begin with.

How long does it take to replace an oil pan on a VW Jetta?

I have to have my oil pan replaced b/c the last Valvoline that changed my oil put the wrong size drain plug in and stripped the pan's threads. Can anyone tell me how much a replacement oil pan should cost for a 2002 VW Jetta, V4, and how long it would take to install? I'm trying to make sure the shop that has my car now does not try to rip me off!!!!|||should nt that long maybe a day or two and why not try a self threading plug|||Cost depends on the garage.

I would make the same garage pay for the stripped threads.

They have to drain the oil of course and then put on the pan and put the oil back in. It is not supposed to take that long.

Is there a 1961 Type 2 VW Microbus for sale in Queensland?

1969 vw beetle, 45,000 original miles and in good condition. How much is it worth?

1969 VW Beetle, 45,000 original miles and in good condition. How much is it worth?|||I don't know about the mileage unless you can document it, since a 40 year old car would likely have had the spedo turn over more then a couple of times. Even in storage, there are parts of the bug that simply wear out by exposure (like rubber pieces, dashboards, headliners, etc.. )

So lets just say that it is a 69 bug in very excellent condition.

Assuming no rust.. good paint no rust...good motor... no rust... good transmission.. no rust ... good interior and a good floor pan (no holes under the battery) oh, and in case I forgot to mention it , no rust...

Show cars of that vintage bring in between $12,000 and $14,000 (use eBay and search for SOLD vw bugs to get a good idea),

Extremely Good but daily driver bugs bring at least $5,000 up to about $8 unless you have a convertible in which case add about $2500 to the top end.

Hope that helps...|||www.thesamba.com is a huge VW site with a lot of adds. Look through it to get an idea. It is hard to estimate a value without seeing the car. 2004 VW Bug- How can I make my own seat covers and accesories?

I saw someone make their own VW seat covers, middle compartment thing, and matching mirror covers?! How in the world did they do that?

Please help me figure out other things to do to spruce up my buggie! I already have a flower in the holder of course, and a flower lay around my center mirror. I also have a hott pink betty boop front license plate.|||I think to do that, you'd have to be related to Martha Stewart or McGiver, haha.

Well, honestly that sounds like a lot of work. I hope you know how to sew.|||God.. you got my favorite one. The easiest way would be to buy some plain black seat covers made for the beetle and just stitch whatever fabric you want on it. As far as the mirror thing and compartment, i dont know.

What would cause the red light to come on and stay on running the battery down on a 1966 vw bug?

I hooked up the battery wrong and now the red light in the dash comes on and after charging the battery and starting the car a 1966 vw bug the red light stays on causing the battery to run down what would cause this problem?|||Check the fuses. Check the one in the fuse box and you should also have one by the voltage regulator . I had the same problem and that was what the problem was. If that doesn't take care of it then you probably did fry the regulator. Just check the fuses first $0.25 is a lot cheaper than $25.00....:-)|||you burnt up your voltage regulator i dont think that it is in the alternator on something that old|||The voltage regulator is shot or the generator is toast.

What is the tapping noise in the engine of an air cooled vw transporter?

There is a tapping noise in the engine of a 1982 2L air cooled vw transporter with twin carbies rather than fuel injection when it idols. What is the noise and could this be a problem.|||If the noise goes away when you raise the engine speed, most likely is a valve lifter. This is common to happen on that type of engine if sit for too long, if you drive the van for about 15 minutes and the noise still there, then you need to investigate if is a bad lifter, the valves need adjustment or there is something bend or worn out on the valve train. About the guy saying to switch back to solid lifters? I do not recommended.|||If it's out near the heads, you probably have flat lifters. That foray into pump-up lifters wasn't all that successful. Good news is if you still have bumps on your cam, you can switch back to solids lifters and adjustable rockers.

If the nois is center line, your loosing a rod or main bearing and should get right on it as it will only get real expensive if you ruin the crank and block.

I believe only Ghia had disc brakes in front.|||Yes.

In a 2003 VW Passat, how bad is it if transmission is filled with oil then driven by accident?

My girlfriends 2003 VW Passat had the transmission fluid accidently drained instead of the oil. Due to DIY ignorance of the layout on a VW, please no insults. It was realized after driving across our small town (no more than 10 miles) what had occured. I'm wondering what and how much damage may have resulted, if at all. Or if we just flush and fill the transmission fluid back up and be on our way.|||I would drain it and refill. That's it.

Transmission fluid is just a lighter grade of oil with the red coloring in it to identify the leak's source. You're OK.|||I'm assuming you are talking about an automatic transmission? I would flush it a few times and drive it. If the clutches slip excessively, then you have problems. If there is damage, it's already done. However, if it shifts smoothly after a few flushes, then you may be OK.

but I wouldn't go more than 500, 900 if the top and body is immaculate condition,

How can I check to see if the engine in a VW Golf was replaced, or if the stock engine is still in?

So I'm looking at buying a 2001 VW Golf 1.8 T. The car's got 165k miles on it but the dealer claims he changed out the motor himself, and put one in with only 80k. Is there some sort of way I can check if he's lying, maybe match the VIN# with the engine number?|||The engine will be stamped with an Engine No. This should correspond to the Engine number on the VIN tally plate which should give both the Chassis and Engine number. This in turn should correspond with the papers for the car. One cannot just change an engine without getting the cars papers changed to reflect this.

Another thing, the engine is not the only mechanical part of a car. The suspension of a car that has been driven on dirt roads will be giving trouble far sooner than the engine. So mileage on an engine is not the only criteria, it is mileage of the total system, which includes brakes, suspension, etc. that will indicate whether it is a good buy or not.|||he must have some kinda paperwork ,either from donor car with vin # ,or ask for car-fax for car your buying, personally if there is no any paperwork i would back up from that car|||check the vin number on the log book with the 1 on the engine|||The engine should have a VIN# stamped on it somewhere

What engine parts will I need to rebuild a type 1 Vw engine?

A type 1 Vw engine is a Bug. If you could list the parts and how much they cost that would be great. Such as coil, gasket, sparkplug, ect. I plan on rebuilding it to stock. No turbo or higher cylinder size. The engine year is an early 1960 bug/gia engine. Thank you so much,Tyler|||Unless you have the specialty tools to do this I would price an engine from a machine shop and just swap your tin over. Depending on where you live the prices for the many parts you need to rebuild this engine as well as the specialized machine work could cost you more than one bought outright. Hope this helps.|||Don't know but good luck|||If you have a stock 60 engine DON"T rebuild it. It doesn't have replaceable cam bearings. Best thing to do is start with a 1967 up block. The parts are to many to list an prices vary a lot by location. If you not a mechanic don't touch it. Have the work done.

They keep going and never stop unless I turn them off. While on the delay switch they act as if they are on the low switch w/no delay. They have been doing this for a long time. Any ideas why or how to correct it?|||It probably has a bad, or incorrect relay that controls them. I would price one at your auto parts store, and compare the numbers on that relay, with the one in the car. If not the relay, I would suspect the multifunctional switch.

How do I replace the Badges on my VW Phaeton?

I don't want the VW on the grille, so where do I find custom grilles for such a rare car, and then how would I get it off the back and then maybe the steering wheel. I want the Phaeton to remain on the back, but I want the VW gone, or replaced by maybe a custom badge? HELP!|||People who own Phaetons usually take it to a customizing shop, but WD-40 works miracles when used with a scraper like a credit card. A piece of string might be handy, too. Be creative, yet gentle. Good luck.

How do I put a front license plate on a new VW Beetle?

I bought a VW Beetle, new style, and I have a vanity plate for the front but I can't figure out how to get the danged thing on. There are no holes or mounting brackets or anything.|||DON'T DRILL YOUR BUMPER!!!

It's a cosmetic issue, but if you ever decide to take the front plate off you'll have ugly holes in your bumper. It's cost a friend of mine almost $500 to fix those holes at a body shop.

What you need to get is a Plate Mate. They have a website.

This thing attaches without drilling into your shiny brand-new bumper. The other bug owners at the forum below (which is my regular hangout and total godsend) are raving about it.

Maybe we'll see you at the fourm? It's all owners showing off their buggies and trading advice :)|||Look on the center of your front bumper cover. There should be two small, faint 'dimples' spaced about 8" apart. This is where your plate mounts.

Get 2 1/4" (or #14) self-drilling screws %26amp; a screw gun. The screws go through the UPPER holes of your plate, %26amp; into the dimples. Yup. Right into the plastic cover.

If you like, you can take the opportunity to add a frame or backer plate, available at Wal-Mart or any parts store.

How much would a 1968 vw fastback engine cost? Just a round a bout?

I found an awesome looking 1968 vw fastback. The body is in excellent condition, the interior needs some work. But the engine looks horrible and rusted. The lady that owns it parked it in one spot 8 yrs ago, so I'm assuming that it no longer runs and that we would also have to replace the gas tank. They're asking 1,500 for it. Is this a good deal? I'm willing to do some work, but not have to spend a ridiculous amount of money. Thanks!!|||Older VW's are among the least expensive cars to work on.Stay away from the ones with an automatic transmission. They were not reliable. The standard trans. cars were very reliable.Get under the car and look for rust holes. To remove the engine all you need to do is basically jack the car up, disconnect a couple of wires, remove the throttle cable, then put a hydraulic jack under the motor, remove 4 bolts and lower the motor. In my younger days I had no trouble loading the engine into the back of a truck myself.|||Kira

$1500 is a good deal if the car is straight and doesn't need much body work. If the car has sat for 8 years, you will need to drain all of the gas and oil. You probably won't need a new engine, but the engine should be pulled out and cleaned up. The carburetor will need to be rebuilt or replaced along with plugs, wires, points and condenser. If for some reason the engine did need to be rebuilt, you are looking around $900 to $1000 and $300 to $500 in labor. I don't think this will be the case.

Best of luck.

Sound like a great project|||if stored outside then 1500 is too much .. depending on its condition anywhere from 500 - 800.. if stored inside and in fair condition id say 1200.. but i cant really give a exact number without seeing it.

as far as an engine for it.. you can get a builder to build you a turnkey engine for about 2000. just bolt it in and go. but look about on thesamba.com classifieds and you might be able to get a good deal...

also look in type 3 section of the classifieds and you might be able to find a fastback in better condition.

So, I bought the base model of a 2000 VW beetle and it has crank windows...

How much will it cause to get power windows in stalled on both sides?

would it be a lot?|||Mine just went down and didn't come back up: $500 to repair. Keep the cranks!|||That will cost you well over a grand. Best way to do that is go to junk yard find the same car buy door panels wiring for the motors and all switches that are in that car and find some one to put them in for you. You will need to buy the window motors and the regulators and maybe the glass heck if you find the same color car just buy the doors and have some one put them on|||500 or less with used parts

How do you convert a VW motor to a aircraft motor?

Im tring to restore a Cessna Twin Engine and I saw on Ebay a VW motor converted to a aircraft motor, just wondering how that works.|||The only airplane to routinely use a VW engine was the VP-1 and VP-2 (Volksplane); a wooden homebuilt, see www.eaa.org.|||He said while he was looking for engines for his conversion he happened to spot a vw aircraft engine, and was curious as to what was involved. He did not say he was planning to use it for his project, and if he can rebuild a twin engine Cessna, I'm sure he already knows that.

There are other engines commonly converted including Corvair, Mazda rotary, etc. They are only used in Experimental aircraft.|||You can't legally put a VW motor on a Cessna of any sort.

You can put them on non-certificated aircraft.

Typically they involve coming up with a mount and reworking the ignition.

Some VW conversions actually remove two of the cylinders.|||Converted VW engines have been used on many homebuilt airplanes, but they wouldn't have sufficient power for any twin Cessna, nor can they be used on any certificated aircraft.|||Looks like another TROLL question guys and gals. How to reset the radio on a 2001 VW?

I replaced the battery in my 2001 VW Bug and I need to reset the radio. I don't have the original code because I bought the car used. I called the dealership in town to have them tell me, and they don't know how. (I'm not sure how it's possible for workers at VW dealership to not know how to do it, but OK). Thanks!|||have you tried another VW dealership? you may have gotten a lazy person on the phone...or you could just drop by and ask someone in the service dept...it is harder for them to blow you off if you are standing in front of them...|||Okay, they should know how. The engine light just turned on and I'd like to get the codes to begin troubleshooting it. I know how to get them off of a honda and I figure there must be a way to get them off of a VW too?|||Go to Advanced auto parts! The have an obd2 scanner there and they'll pull the codes for free. And I beleive they can reset the codes too after you fix whatever it is that's causing the light to come on|||rent a scan tool and that will show you what the computer is reading and show u wuts rong with it. then fix it and it should go off, hopefully but not all the time and it might be worth leaving it off because it might cost hella to turn it off by bringing it in somewhere and even if they get it to turn off it still might come on later on down the road again so.|||You need an OBD II scanner, dfesigned to read all engine fault codes for all vehicles 1995 and later. They aren't cheap, so here's option #2. Go to a reputable car parts place, like Discount auto Parts, and ask if they read your car for you. They can tell what's wrong, and make recommendadtions. Which other make seats will fit in my 1971 1302 vw beetle?

I would like to put some nice black leather sports sets in. It didn't come with the original seats, has vw cloth sports seats of some sort.

I know Porsche are a popular replacement but are expensive. Suggestions for other makes which will fit please.|||You can have the seats in it recovered in leather.

I run PRP seats in my VW.

You can go to a junk yard and find some good leather seats out of any luxury car and install them in your bug. It is not hard to do if you can weld or know someone with a welder and minimal skills.|||any seats will fit,,

it just depends how much your filling to pay to get them fitted due to you will need to modify the runners|||Check out the fit of a pair of seats from a Mazda Miata. They're pretty popular and somewhat plentiful in the junkyards.|||You will find that that the covers on the seats actually come off very easily.

There are just a row of C shaped little clamps around the bottom.

Unbending them allows the cover to easily come off.

Then you can easily have a biker leather shop make custom ones, cheap.

Then can easily use the old ones as a pattern.

There are some naugahyde ones that are better than leather actually, and hold up better.

But you could also probably modify most seat covers to fit, as long as they are not from a smaller seat.

What is wrong with the instrument cluster in my 02 VW Golf?

I just purchased a 2002 vw golf gls and noticed that the information display screen on the gauge cluster does not work. Also, the backlight for the time display in the same cluster seems to be out, so that when the headlights are on and it is dark you cannot see the time. Find a wrecked MkIII Golf with low miles. I would assume the trans. is shot unless you can get a trusted mechanic's opinion.

For tech advice, see http://www.vwvortex.com

The 97 Golf is a MkIII which was produced from 1993-1999 and if you plan to replace the gearbox yourself do yourself a favor and get a proper Bentley manual (not a Haynes manual!)

Do I have to remove the engine on my VW bus to replace the oil cooler seal?

I have a '74 westy that has a modest leak coming from inside the fan shroud on the left side of the engine - the heaviest leakage is coming from near the oil filter. Anyhow, I was really hoping that there was a fairly easy way to replace the oil cooler seal without having to pull the engine, since VW made it way harder to pull the engine in '68 with the deletion of the removable rear apron. Anyone done this before?|||i guess you could replace the seal with the motor in the bus. but i would take the motor out. if it's in the bus and you get started on it and after banging your knuckles a few times you'll wish you pulled the motor. there is actually 4 bolts that hold the motor in. plus if you pull the motor you can check other things while you have it out. like the clutch, rear main engine seal, spark plugs, trans seal and you can clean and detail the motor while it's out. it would be a good learing experience and you can brag about it to your friends that you did it. good luck.|||no, you can hire somebody to do so...|||Yes three bolts hold the engine to the chassis. you need a lift to hold the engine and the work is easy. May as well replace as many gaskets as you can while out.|||hire some one

Diagnosis charge on VW passat 2001-How much does it cost?

I need to run a full diagnosis report on the passat, without repairs. I really want to be fair and competitive with my charges for raising the report using VW Scanner.

Any ideas how much is being charged on such a car in other shop?

Thanks.|||If you aren't using the VW computer, you won't get a full report. Of course you need to be certified and capable of getting in to the VW service web site to do it. When I quit, the dealer was charging $95.00 and took about 1 1/2 hours to do. That was a few years back. If you are using a Snap On or other after market unit, I wouldn't charge more than .5 or .75 hours.|||We charge an hour, $95. Auto-scan with Ross tech, 1 print out.

How do I prevent engine fires on my 1973 VW bus?

It's an air cooled engine. Do I just need to check to make sure it has enough water?

I went to a VW forum but they were useless as they just lead me to a thousand other links that I would have to search through when I would just like a quick answer.

Thanks!|||You dont need water for your car, unless you want some for yourself. Your main concern on your bus is the fuel lines in the engine compartment. You should change them every 1 to 2 years, however I do mine every year. The fuel line gets brittle and could crack. Also, many people place an extra fuel filter in the engine compartment. Most do not recommend this for 2 reasons, 1: it sits above the distributor, and 2. the line could loosen the carb brass tube that the fuel line connects to, thus spraying fuel all over your hot engine. You maybe asking why then doesn't the engine just shut off when the line leaks/carb brass tube falls out? Well, you are driving a carburated vehicle with a float that fills with gas, allowing you to run even when the lines are broken. Buy a fire extinguisher. Yeah, it costs money but a 15 dollar investment can save your 3500 investment. Other precautions you can take are simple, like making sure all the proper cooling tin is in place. VW designed the engine with cooling vanes and a thermostat. Over several years (and probably owners) yours may not have them. While your engine will still run without them, they are an important part of keeping your engine cool. Furthermore, check to make sure no debris gets in the fan every once in a while. While the engines OFF, reach your hand behind the fan shroud and make sure nothing was sucked up in there. I have found some newspaper in a bus one time, fixed the overheating problem. One last thing, you need to check the oil once a week (should be in between the 2 lines on the dipstick, if it gets to the lower one add a little each time until you get to the top line or at least near it. NEVER over fill the oil). Keep a spare fan belt and 10 shims so if your fan belt breaks, you can replace it on the fly (110 freeway, downtown LA 7:00pm for me). I am leaving you 2 links for your vehicle, 1 mostly applies because beetle and bus have the same engine stuff, and another is for busses. You may want to pick up a manual for your bus along with the "compleat idiots guide". I know your not an idiot, but this book is so simply written, anyone who can read can fix a VW. Good luck and happy motoring.

www.vw-resource.com

www.type2.com|||Just make sure to avoid driving in places that do not have air.|||doesnt require water/only oil and make sure fan belt is attached|||most of the vw fires are due to the gas line separating from the carb, a quick fix is to take the gas line off and take the nipple that goes into the carb and take it out and put the other end into the carb and attach the fuel line and you are done|||Make sure it is always full of oil and that the alternator charge light works. If it throws a belt, the charge light will turn on so you know to STOP. The cooling fan is attached to the alternator so if it throws a belt, the engine is no longer getting cooled.

As far as VW fires, they are generally caused by old cracked fuel lines. Mainly the fuel line going from the tank to the fuel pump. The line goes from a hard line to a rubber line just behind the engine. Where the two join, the rubber hose cracks and squirts fuel onto the #3 cylinder (runs the hottest) and catches on fire. I like to double wrap the rubber fuel line with a larger diameter line to keep the fuel line from getting hot and brittle. I also regularly check the fuel line from the fuel pump to the carb. It gets very hot in the engine bay and the rubber will dry out and crack.

As far as water, it dies not have a radiator and is not a water cooled engine. To help keep the engine cool, an aftermarket oil cooler will help.|||you could go with an electric fan

Where is the best place to look for classic VW bugs?

I'm looking for a pre '98 VW Bug and I'm not having that great of luck on craigslist. Does anyone know where another good place to look would be?|||Okay, you are looking for a VW Bug from the 1950's through 1970's. First off, understand that the VW Beetle was discontinued here in the United States due to the Federal Safety and Emissions Standards of the Mid to Late 70's. If the vehicle was imported before than, it is still legal. Now, finding one.....I would suggest www.cartrader.com, eBay, and of course, a general search engine. Take it back. Push the issue as they are betting that they will wear you out past their warranty.

Chances are that they outsourced it to a different shop, as that isn't a normal thing for vw dealers to install.

I need to do full diagnosis report on the passat, without repairs. I really want to be fair and competitive with my charges for raising the report using VW Scanner.

Any idaes how much is being charged on such a car in other shop?

Thanks.|||Inspecting the complete vehicle for maintenance advice is usually free. There is no need to scan for codes if the car does not have a check engine light on. If you want the to print out a data list on the electrical sensors and solenoids and read the mili-volt readings of the 02 sensors, etc. the charge is one hour labor. If the vehicle has problems with power or stalling I would charge an additional one hour labor for hooking up a fuel pressure gauge and take readings at idle and at 2,500 rpm.

What do you need to know to own a VW Bus?

I would like some advice - it's always been a goal to own a WORKING VW Bus. I had some auto classes in high school, which wouldn't help me now. So before I buy one, I would like information - common problems and what ideally should I know how to fix. What year is reccomended? Any other useful information you could give me - other than calling me a hippie and telling me to get something else? Thanks!|||The most common problem AND the first thing you should know is about the valve adjustment. VW's have always been little SOB's when it comes to valve adjustments. they have to be done on thier schedule or it eats those motors alive !

As for what Years...........thats all a matter of your own personal preferance and how much power you want. Personally I like the older Busses......up to 65-68. Those were Hippie Vans!

Peace Doll!|||You better be in love...with the bus. There are some good answers ahead of mine, but I have to put my 2 cents in. Owning a bus is a job that you need to be dedicated to. I had an 82 Vanagon with a sunroof. It was the bomb, it was slow but I didn't care( only 4 speeds) I put alot of money into it. My family tease me about it to this day, they thought i'd lost my mind. There's just something about being up high and that large wheel and all that space...wow...yes be careful of rust and where socks and mittens in the winter and watch for leaks and low lights. Is it worth it? I thought so...i want another one.|||The most important thing to check on those vehices is rust.Any floor or other structural rust is too expensive to fix.1966 and older are 6 volt electrics which means very dim lights by todays standards,so I'd recommend 1967 as the best year because 68 and newer had transmission problems.Remember these vehicles are slow by modern standards and don't have any modern safety equipment.|||You have to understand that VW busses are seriously underpowered and you'll need to not push it too hard. If you find one with an upgraded engine it's not a bad thing. It's very common because they often blow when people over-rev them. You'll also get it to live longer if you routinely change the oil, adjust the valves and tighten the heads.

Thanks!|||buy it , you know the history the mileage is low for the year, and she is taking good care of it, these are the kinds of cars to look for, one where the owner does not just drive the heck out of it and then dump it. I try to talk people out of buying high mileage crap every week. This is the jewel of a car you are looking for that are very difficult to find So grab on to this deal drive it for awhile and then go from that point you can still put 45,000 miles on it, and if you take care of it someone else can use it for a while longer too. Good score enjoy your new to you car.|||Very nice car, historical. it's wearing a 4 cylinder boxer engine(if it's not modified), which makes it reliable and strong. The miles are not much for a car like this. Check it's condition, if you don't know how, ask for a test drive, or ask someone else to check it.

I'm purchasing a 1989 VW Cabriolet and the fenders have a Karmann logo on the side. I can't find any information on what I assume is just an optional trim package. It does seem to have different exhaust and most certainly different bumpers, and skirting/spoilers. What is the difference between the Cabriolet Karmann editions and the stocks?|||Karmann is the coach builder- they are the ones who fit the top and a couple of other bits. Whats the difference between a long block vw engine and a short block?

I was wondering because I am looking for an air-cooled Vw engine for my 1961 bug.|||A long block will have heads, the short block won't have heads or pistons and cylinders. Some builders will install the flywheel on a long block as well. It's tricky, requires special tools, and if you get it wrong, the crank gets ruined. Those tools are not expensive though.

If you fit a 1600 into that 61, the motor bay is slightly narrower, but it is a very common thing to fit into an early beetle.|||A long block includes the heads a short block is just the block part of the engine.

1967 VW Bug

Specifications:

Engine: 1200cc / 1300cc

Horsepower: 50 hp / 53 hp

Top Speed: 130 km/h (82 mph)

What can I do to make this engine go faster?|||This site www.oldspeed.com is where you can get an idea what your options are, you can build up that motor but parts are getting scarce and expensive.

Your best bet is to go with the 1600cc dual port motor with big bore cylinder kit, upgraded crank and a dual carburetor set up.

The 1600 is a much better engine and parts are much easier and less expensive to get.|||LOL, that thing cannot do 82 MPH, you'll be lucky to get 75.

You can't do much without burning it out, you'll need to get a double port, 1600 if you wanna do much of anything.

But that'll cots you.|||replace it................an uprite porsche engine will bolt right up!|||Port and relive and have your engine blueprinted. You can have this done at any speed shop or a shop which specializes in racing cars. This way you never compromise the engine. How much would it cost to fix the speedometer on a '99 VW bug?

I am looking at purchasing a used '99 VW bug, and it runs great and is great condition... but the speedometer doesn't work.

How much would I be looking at if I were going to have it repaired? What is the least - most I would be looking at?|||I don't think that the speedo on a 99 model car will still be a cable operated one. It will be an electronic one which means that there is an electronic pickup sensor in the gearbox that sends a signal to the speedo. It can either be the sensor or the speedo itself or a bad connection somewhere.

Most repairers will simply replace the parts till it works and that can be expensive. A lot of times it is quite repairable by somebody with electronic knowledge so do not let them take you for a ride.|||if its only the cable,, you pay the price of the cable and a couple of hours to change it,, or get a handy friend!! they are easy to do!!|||I advise that you pose your question on this forum below. Lotsa nice owners there to help you, as they've helped me.

I don't know much about the speedometer thingy, but you might have to change the whole cluster. It might run $200 (somewhat-educated guess) The experts on the org can help you more than I. Is it possible to convert a 1965 VW Beetle to an automatic transmission?

I have a 1965 VW Beetle and I want to convert the transmission. Is this possible? And how much will that run me?|||It's difficult to obtain the automatics that were used in these vehicles, much less all the related parts. The automatics weren't a true automatic, you still had to shift the gears, they just had an automatic clutch, so they were never popular. There weren't even offered until 1968, and were dropped in '76. You'd really have to find a complete parts car, and see if you could make it work with the older model. Realistically it would cost more than the car is worth.|||VW used a semi-automatic transmission in some Beetles (from 1968-1976). I'd assume that if you can find one of those semi-auto transaxles, you could swap it in place of the manual and have it fit etc. Fitting a more conventional automatic transmission to the rear-engined Beetle might be more of a challenge, but I bet somebody has done it before...ask around at any VW Beetle clubs etc., you can find.

Fwiw the VW semiauto trans had to be shifted manually (via the shift lever which also actuated a vacuum operated clutch) but you don't use a clutch pedal. The transmission has a torque converter like a conventional automatic so you can take off from a stop without using a clutch pedal as well. It's automatic (clutch pedal free) but must be shifted from gear to gear by the driver.|||There is the auto-stick shift that is clutchless.

It could easily be put in if you could find one.

They were started in 68, and not many made.

There is also the type III full automatic transmission that will easily fit the engine and mounts.

The problem is the drive axles.

The 65 had swing arms with solid axles.

The auto type III had independent rear suspension with drive shafts with flexible double universal CV joints. You would have to change the rear suspension to IRS for the axles to work.

I would suspect it would run around $1000.|||check out www.cbperformance.com or pasificcustoms.com for a automatic conversion kit for your bug,

How often do I need to change the synthetic oil in my VW Beetle Turbo GLS?

I have a 2004 VW Beetle Turbo GLS. I had an oil change about 3,000 miles ago (my first one with this car) and have had the Beetle 10 months. I don't put very many miles on it at all. I am unfamiliar with synthetic oil and was wondering how long I could wait between oil changes - someone told me 5,000 miles, any thoughts? Thank you!|||Every 5,000 miles or at least once a year, assuming that you don't drive at 5,000 miles in that time period. As per VW service schedule for 2004 1.8 turbo models sold in the US.

Hope this helps, a car nut.|||check owners manual. always check owners manual. all cars are different, some need it changed every 3,000 because of conditions and some need changing every 10,000. synthetic oil doesn't lengthen or shorten how often you should change your oil.

whatever the owner's manual says go by that...don't listen to opinions of crazy home mechanics|||The owners manual assumes that you are using non-synthetic oil. All Synthetic Oils are different qualities. Napa's Full Synthetic is good for 5000 miles or 1 year where as royal purple full synthetic is good for probably 10,000 miles, maybe even more.

How much would it cost to replace a transmission in a 66 vw beetle?

I might have to replace a transmission in a 66 vw beetle. I would like to know how much it will cost before I get myself in a financial crunch.|||Maybe you can find one rolling around as a vehicle and get it for less than buying the transmission seperately. That is the way I would go about it. 66 or less|||first off are you sure you need to replace the transaxle? how do you know its the tranny and not something trivial? what are the symptoms?

either way you can get a used tranny for $50 to $1500. replacing it requires the engine to come out, the shift rod needs to be disconnected at the knuckle on the nosecone.

its not hard to do at home with a couple of friends. just bribe them with a case of beer.

taking it to a mechanic will cost you a lot of money in labor and isnt worth it when you can do it in your garage in a day or two

What is the biggest engine I can fit into my '58 VW Type 1 without destroying the body?

I have a '58 VW Ragtop that I would like to turn into a fast little number, not really a dragster or anything crazy, but just something that would give a newer sports car a run for their money I don't want to have to cut the body or anything like that because it just seems like a shame.|||best way is to build up a 1600 into something larger. a properly tuned 1915cc will run laps around a new tuner.

i wouldnt go for an engine swap when you can build a fast reliable air cooled for a lot less money and get the same or more power from it.|||Have you thought about a engine from a Porsche? It's not a direct bolt in but there is no cutting.|||In general you can stuff a standard 1600 + engine that has been modified for around 2000 and that will do the job.

BUT..

In my own experience a 1770 or so is about as big as you want to make it - especially for the older bugs which had less rugged suspension system and will already be a bit tired.

Also, once you get over the 1700 limit, you start generating a LOT more heat which, if you do not dissipate it will cause some premature engine wear. That means adding on an oil cooler of some kind which, in turn, will likely lower the value of your 58 classic body.

I drive a 71 with a 1770+/- engine and a stock carb system. I also has a street cam in it which hits its power on the top end of the curve. When it hits the high end it just starts to pull away and I can cruise the freeway at an easy 70... (which is just fine for a VW with its somewhat lousy air flow).

90% of a VW is the way it looks.. speed is not something it is ever going to handle, so max your dollars out on the visual and you will be glad you did.

.

Is it possible to switch a VW Beetle (Old) from manual to automatic? How much would it cost?

I want to buy a VW Beetle, one of the ones from the late 60s and early 70s but I am a little worried about driving an automatic car. If it is possible I still don't think I would be able to pay a fortune to have it switched. Thanks|||Tehnically, it is possible...so you could...but it would require enough custom work that Bill Gates would have to work out a payment play.|||You should drop this idea as quickly as possible

1) VW's made an auto stick from about 1968 on but it still required shifting.. the only difference to the driver was that it had no clutch and only three forward gears instead of four.

2) It sucked. The tranny required extra power to run (less for the road) and worse economy.

3) If you drove a stick, more then once you would mash the oversized brake pedal with your left foot out of muscle memory and habit. THAT was a fun experience.

4) They did not have the indestructable reputation of the regular beetle and repairs were more frequent and expensive.

5) That was then.. this is now. Repairs are REALLY expensive assuming you can find the parts which are not made in the quantity that beetle parts are. Even the clutch plate is different, expensive and hard to find.

Flip side..

THey exist.. no need to convert your car.. just buy one.

THey are rare because of their quantity. That gives them a bit of value but not much.

Bottom line.. buy the 4 speed stick.. cheaper, more fun.. better car.. and easier to deal with in terms of maint.

..|||I would never switch it to an automatic. It is probably the easiest stick to learn on. It is like riding a bicycle or chewing gum and breathing at the same time. You can do that, correct? Unless you are missing your left leg( and I have seen 1 legged people who could drive standard shift), you are making up an excuse to suit yourself.

Go find someone who has an automatic old VW Beetle or stationwagen-they are plainly marked as autostickshift on the back. That is the automatic. Drive it. You will still have to shift.|||If you can even find an autostick trans for the Beetle, great.

Problem is...they weren't made in great numbers, if they even went in Beetles back thn. Maybe they did, but it's been 10 years since I had any old VW manuals, so I forget...|||If you want a manual, they already have them. You can't swap them.|||no, not possible. there was never an old bug made in an automatic, therefore you won't ever find an automatic transmission for one. you could always swap the motor for a new bug motor, but that'd be expensive

How do you tell if it is a clutch cable and not a clutch that is broken on a VW jetta?

I have a 2000 VW Jetta that recently had the clutch go. When I depress it it goes straight to the floor and I cannot shift out of the gear I'm in or start when its not in neutral. My dad thinks it may be the clutch cable and not the clutch. How do you tell which is the issue?|||When a clutch goes out, the engine rpms increase faster then speed (slipping).

When a clutch release mechanism fails the car has difficulty shifting except when the engine is off.

But the Jetta does not have a cable, it has a hydraulic clutch system. So check the smaller reservoir under the hood and make sure it is full. More then likely it is not. Fill it up and see if the system pumps up. If it goes to the floor after you try to pump it up, look for a bad line in the system. Try bleeding the system. If it still does not work suspect the Master cylinder, if it pumps up and fails to stay that way then suspect the slave cylinder. Before replacing either the master or slave, make sure that the rubber hose between the chassis and the slave is intact. These do rupture. This hose is more then likely the same one used on the brake system.

None of these parts is internal the transmission or bell housing and are all easily replaced.

1998 VW Cabrio alarm that won't disarm without disconnecting the battery?

I've had a 1998 VW Cabrio for a few years, when I got the car the drivers side door was unable to reset the alarm so I've always used to passenger door. Now the passenger door no longer disables the alarm and neither does the trunk. All of the locks turn and each individual lock unlocks but the alarm as a whole wont disarm and because the car is stuck in alarm mode it wont start. The only way to disarm it is to disconnect the battery. Any suggestions on disconnecting the alarm system?|||other than replacing all the latches, you can pull the alarm relay out and make a jumper relay to plug in instead of the relay!

How many miles does a typical VW Beetle maintain?

I'm looking for a VW New Beetle(not the classic) and I'm hoping to find a used one that will last me through my last year of high school and college. And I need to know how many miles a Beetle's engine can take before needing serious work?|||It's kind of luck of the draw. If you can find a diesel one, the engine will last longer. I have a diesel Jetta (same engine as the diesel Beetle) with 172,000 miles on it and it runs fine. And the increased mpg (I'm getting 47 on the highway) will way more than compensate for the slightly higher cost of diesel fuel and the extra cost of the car compared to a gas one.

But, lots of little stuff breaks on VWs. Things like the sensors to tell if a door or the trunk is open, etc. It's pretty annoying, because it seems like there's always *something* minor wrong. I'm not basing this off of just my own experience - I have 5 friends with VWs (4 of them also have diesels) and I read www.tdiclub.com a fair bit.|||kind of a moot question. cars will surprise you, sometimes you get a car renowned for its reliablity that dies at 100k or you get a car that is known to spend more time in the shop then out last forever. but from my experience i know a few people that own beetles that dont take good care of them yet they still havent had any major problems. only problem is volkswagens tend to have expensive labor charges compared to many other imports. if you can do the work yourself then i would get one if not then i would just get a used toyota or honda

What specifically does the red BRAKE warning light mean in a 2002 VW Cabrio?

I don't have a manual for my 2002 VW Cabrio. The brake warning light just came on - The word BRAKE in red capital letters. Is this a brake fluid problem, a sensor problem, etc.? The parking brake isn't on, and it drives and brakes fine. Just had my brake pads changed in March of '08, so that shouldn't be the problem.|||Brake warning lights come on when you are low on fluid. Also, in some vehicle them come on for a few seconds when the vehicle is started. It could also be a sensor problem. I would take it to a shop, and they will be able to plug into the computer and read what the computer says is wrong. |||Could be 2 problems, parking brake engaged or low fluid in the master cylinder. |||it could be any of the above, low fluid level,a pressure difference in the two halves of the system, a brake lamp that is out, an e brake that is still partially on, or pads that have worn to a minimum. my best advice is that you get the brakes checked out by a professional.

How much do you think my VW Bug is worth?

I am planning to sell my 2000 New VW Beetle. It has 82,000 miles and is in fair condition. Some scratches but still runs reasonable well. It's automatic and has all up-graded features. Leather seats, seat warmer, sun/moon roof, ABS, etc.|||In fair condition as a trade in value- $4900

To sell privately- $6300|||Go to www.kkb.com - Kelley Blue Book. Put in all your information and they will tell you how much it is worth|||$4500.00 TO $5200.00

How do i know which BHP version of the VW Golf GT TDI i have?

I recently bought a VW Golf from an independent dealer. They advertised it as a VW Golf GT TDI 130.

When i've been trying to get insurance, most companies think my car is the 150 version and others give me the option of selecting which it is, 130 or 150. The v5 doesn't reference the bhp figure.

The car looks quite low and strangely has silver GTI badges front and rear instead of TDI or GT TDI badges. It also has red sport seats.

Does anyone know how to tell for sure which version i have?|||Hi Daniel,

I used to work for VW for 4 years as a tech and 2 years as a service advisor.

Here's the interesting bit...!

Officially VW badged up the Golf Gt Tdi 150BHP hatchback with a GTI turbo badge (silver GT and Red I) and on the Bora's they badged it with Complete red TDI.

They did muck about with the badges aswell, i.e. putting silver GTI badges and sometimes complete red tdi on the golf hatchbacks

Best way to confirm BHP and model of your vehicle is to look in the service book, there will be a sticker on the front page with lots of numbers on it, this tells the dealer everything about your specific car, from trim levels and colour to service regime, engine and gearbox. it should state on it the BHP or KW (power of that vehicle)

If this sticker is not in the service book, look underneath that carpet in the boot, round the outer rim of the spare wheel, there should be a sticker there too.

if it does not state the bhp or kw then go to a vw dealer or phone them with the engine code, they can tell you from that.

There is another way to tell too but it starts to get a bit technical. if you lift up the engine cover, if its a 150BHP then there will be a big black plastic intercooler pipe running straight past the oil filter casing. this is because the 150's have a bigger turbo and the 130's don't have this intercooler pipe...

If you cant find any stickers and dont wanna look under the bonet, phone VW up and give them the Reg number, they can bring up the information on a dialoge system, this will state the engine code's and the BHP, if the vehicle has had a plate change or its an import then give them the chassis number, they should get it from that.

The GTI TDI 150's came standard with 16inch Montreal alloys and the 130's came standard with 15inch avus alloys, this is not to say that they havnt been changed or upgraded though. see below link for standard 150's alloys.

I also belive that 150's came standard with a Leather / Wood / chrome gear knob and the 130's just a standard leather one. once again this isnt to say its been changed or upgraded.

Actually to drive these vehicle's standard you wont notice much difference at all.

When you mention about the red sports seats, all of the GT TDI's have these, even the 115BHP tdi's.

Hope this helps mate,|||Phone several VW dealerships and quote them the car's chassis number. They should be able to tell you from that the exact model.

Both the 130 and 150 versions are group 13 insurance, so it shouldn't really make any difference as to what power it has.|||Defintely 130 BHP, unless it has been chipped. Noramlly a PD115 has 115 BHP, a PD130 has 130 BHP. BTW, these cars have exellent torque, it is like driving a automatic.|||You can't physically tell by looking at it you will have to get the engine number or alternativly look in the boot and there will be a badge with k/n on it that should deciver the bhp. Also i have noticed that golf tdi imports sometimes carry the gti badge front and back. hope this helps.|||I would contact a local VW approved dealership. I've seen a few GT TDI's in my time and none of them have ever had a GTi badge on them. Though I suppose you can work out whether it's a GTi or TDi by whether it takes diesel or petrol.|||If you check on the top of the timing belt cover there should be a white sticker, on the lower line there will be a 3 letter code ie. AVB AEX etc, if this sticker is gone or can not be read check in the spare wheel well there is usually a white or yellow sticker there that you will find the code on. when you have that code check with most motor factors or google the code %26amp; you will get the answer, failing that email me the code %26amp; ill get back to you with the info.

Are VW and Audi belong to the same company?

Are VW and Audi owned by one company? Or are they both independent companys? They some times look alike, and I just like them.|||Volkswagen owns Audi, along with Porsche, Lamborghini, et.al.|||All your VW and Audi are belong to us.|||They're both part of the same family. They share motors, seats, etc very often but compete in different parts of the market. VW and SEAT servicing the "entry to mid" sections, Audi handles the "premium" segments, Porsche the "enthusiast" and Lamborghini providing VW-esque in the "superleague". So you could be with VW all the way, from your first Beetle, at Woodstock to owning Audi's, Porsche's and maybe even a Lamborghini... Cool, huh??|||yes, Volkswagen AG owns both brands|||VW AG owns the VW and Audi, and other brands, see:
