The check engine light in my VW Passat cam on about 2 months ago in my VW Passat. I've been looking up the possibilities and think it could be the oil sludge issues. Does anyone else have any ideas or how to fix it?|||There's about 500+ different things that can make that light come on.
So far, it seems you've done everything except the one thing it's telling you to do. CHECK THE ENGINE.
It's not hard. Take it in, get the code read.
Don't waste time, looking up what it might be, just find out what it actually is.
Then, you'll have an idea of how to fix it.|||Oil sludge issues? You don't change the oil and filter every 3,000 miles or have the car scanned for codes. Looking up what possibilities? You don't have anything to base a guess on. You need to fix your bad habit of driving the car into the ground. Have a mechanic that knows what they are doing keep your car maintained and running before you end up walking.
A car should be inspected and scanned for codes asap when the light comes on.
By the way, dirty oil is not one of the things that will set ses lights and codes.|||ill give you the list but now you have to pull the codes.

It should be OBD2 and you can take it to a parts store or garage or buy a code reader ($40 or less) that will read codes on all 96 and up cars. If you think it's sludge..you DID change the oil and filter right?|||mostly if the light is flashing there is something major wrong. but if not then it could just be time to change an air filter or as simple as the gas cap not venting right. go to auto zone they can read the code out for free.|||your question is like you having a headache and calling your doctor and ask him why do u have a headache.? nobody is going to know why your check engine light is on unless you take your car a shop and have it looked at
